Can a Cat’s Dominant Paw Reveal Its Gender? 🐾

111

Have you ever noticed that your cat always uses one paw first when swiping, stepping, or grabbing? 🐱✋
Well, guess what? Studies show that a cat’s dominant paw might be linked to its gender! 😲

🐾 Cats Have a Preferred Paw—Just Like Humans!

Just like humans being left-handed or right-handed, cats also have a dominant paw.
But here’s the interesting part—scientists found that a cat’s paw preference depends on its gender!

📌 Male cats tend to be left-pawed 🐾
📌 Female cats prefer their right paw 🐾

A study from Queen’s University Belfast observed 44 pet cats (24 females, 20 males).
They watched how these cats walked down stairs, stepped into their litter boxes, and reached for food.

76% of male cats favored their left paw 🐾
67% of female cats preferred their right paw 🐾

Pretty fascinating, right?! 🤯

🐾 How to Test Your Cat’s Dominant Paw

Want to find out whether your cat is a lefty or a righty? Try these fun tests!

Test 1: Watch Their First Step 🏃‍♂🐾
When your cat goes down the stairs, which paw steps first? Left or right?

Test 2: The Treat Challenge 🍗
Place a treat inside a small box. Which paw does your cat use to try and get it out?

Test 3: Litter Box Check 🏡
When stepping into the litter box, does your cat lead with the left or right paw?

If your male cat is right-pawed or your female cat is left-pawed, congratulations! You have a rare exception! 😆

🐾 Why Does Gender Affect Paw Preference?

It all comes down to how their brains work!

📌 Male cats tend to have a more active left brain, so they favor their left paw.
📌 Female cats rely more on their right brain, making them right-pawed.

Interestingly, similar trends have been found in dogs, birds, and even humans! 🧠✨
